This phrase is loaded for most women……this phrase seems like an oxymoron.
That these two words are at odds with each other, we have been taught that they can not coexist together.
When we think of Holy women images of the Virgin Mary come to mind, saints, angels, and if you are Catholic - lots and lots of martyrs or saints….women who typically chose a path of renunciation. Giving up worldly belongings, money, love, anything and everything related to a sensual human experience.
Then we think of the Whores……Mary Magdalene, Lilith, Jezebel, sluts, skanks, and any other women that is used to desrcibe women of “loose morals”.
And yet the power is found within the duality of this AND….
The Holy Woman
AND
The Whore.
The Holy Wh🌹re.
You see, I was raised Catholic, and attended Catholic school for 10 years, so the conditioning was/is deep within me to see the separation between spiritual and sexual. I thought about becoming a nun for a short period, and bought deeply into purity culture - truly beeliving I would be less lovable if I had sex before marriage.
In my early 20’s I left the Church, realizing the values didn’t align but I carries shame about my sexuality and sensuality for years to come. I remember crying the first time a man went down on my because I felt so much shame “for enjoying something like that”.
It was not until my mid 20’s when I found the world of the Feminine, when I was given not only permission but the explanation that my pleasure was my BIRTH RIGHT and it was in fact from the Divine!
I spent the next decade immersing myself in all things Feminine energy, sensuality work. sexual liberation and trauma healing. I have studied with the greats and learned anything and everything I can.
My guiding light throughout most of this has been
Mary Magdalene
I grew up being taught (despite this being debunked in the 60s!) that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute, the “fallen woman”. That she was sinful BECAUSE of her sexuality.
And yet - she WAS a Priestess, she was Christ’s most beloved apostle (and I believe his partner in all senses and yes I also mean sexually). She was able to teach the Feminine path of love in a way no one else could.
To me, she IS The Holy Wh🌹re, and has been my guiding light, the Divine energy I channel every morning.
Which is why I have felt called to create this space.
For thousands upon thousands of years sacred sexual priestesses were held in the highest regard, because ancient civilizations saw the female as 1 with the Divine and saw the Divinity within sexuality.
The word “whore” comes from anceint priestesses of Harthor.
Women and the Feminine were revered, for thousands of years the magic of women was coveted and honored. Then the patriarchy came in and fucked it all up. Cutting women off from our power by cutting us off from our sexuality.
I keep saying the smartest move the patriarchy made to cut women from our power was to link our sexuality to our morality.
Meaning it was believed the MORE sexual a woman was the LESS moral she was - aka going to burn in eternal damnation.
We have had 3500 years of being told, taught and shown that if we own our power and sexuality bad things happen….think The Inquisition, The Witch Trials, Colonialism….the list goes on and on.
But what is being called forth from women right now is a reclaiming of the fallen woman, a reclamation of our Power THROUGH reclaiming our erotic essence and sexuality!
